Dear Neighbor and Area Stakeholder:
Please see the below notice to apply for affordable housing lottery by no later than Friday of this week. While the below language makes reference to G2/Taylor Yards in Elysian Valley, the available units are in fact across the River on the Cypress Park Side. I will be having a handful of applications delivered to me later today and if interested you can send me an email. You may also contact Miranda Rodriguez at LA River Corporation- 323.221.7800.
I apologize for the late notice but I need your help. In case you are not aware, lottery applications for affordable apartment rentals in the Rio Vistas Phase II residential development (built by McCormack Barron Salazar on G2/Taylor Yards in Elysian Valley) must be postmarked by THIS FRIDAY, November 22nd. I’d urge you to make direct contact to low-income renting families in Frogtown/EV and encourage them to apply.
Why does this matter? In the short term, the 80+ units of family affordable housing in this project will be the best chance for working class families in Elysian Valley to secure long-term rental housing in the immediate area. If the Frogtown area heats up as a residential market, as it may well do, there is risk of displacement. If you know long-term renters of limited means who wish to remain in the area, I would encourage them to file an application for this quality project. There is no commitment to move, and the application is a simple one-page form that includes a return envelope. The lottery for affordable units is always competitive in Los Angeles, but you can’t win if you don’t play!
If you have Frogtown friends, neighbors, or families that are at the risk of displacement, I would suggest you bring an application to them and encourage them to apply immediately. This is excellent affordable housing along the river.
The applications are only delivered hardcopy. Tomorrow I will be dropping about 25 paper applications to Miranda Rodriguez email@example.com of the LA River Corporation to get out to Frogtown. She is copied on this email.
If you know a family that needs an application, please reach out to her or the River Corporation (ph# 323.221.7800).
Thanks for your dedication to river communities!
