Distraction Burglary – Inform yourself and watch out for your neighbor

Dear Community Members:Just wanted to alert you of a “Distraction Burglary” that occurred on 02/11/12 at approximately1220 pm, in the 3500 block of Ferncroft, in Atwater Village.Suspect knocked on the front door and spoke to victim. Suspect wanted to enter the rear yard and complete electrical work. Victim did an amazing job of locking the front door behind him and met suspect in the backyard. Suspect distracted victim for about 5 minutes and then walked to the front of the house and met with suspect #2. Both suspects walked away and victim re-entered his home. Once inside victim saw his drawers and closets opened with property missing. Victim immediately notified the police.Unfortunately these types of distractions occur more than we would all like. However, this distraction was unusual because the victim did the right thing and locked the front door behind him, but suspect #2 pry opened the front door while victim was distracted to the rear yard. Reminder not to allow anyone on your property that you did not invite, ask to see I.D. Report any unusual activity immediately to the police. Please check with your most beloved Senior neighbors and check on their welfare too.  If ever in doubt do not hesitate to Dial 911.
